MSE Video Recorder
This page records video data from MSE (Media Source Extensions) streaming sites like Twitch and Facebook Watch. The video page will reload and begin capturing data as the video plays. Do not close this tab until recording is complete! DRM-protected content is not supported. Temporary data is stored in your browser's storage.
How It Works
Three simple steps to download any video
Click Record
Open the BoltStream popup on any page and click Record Mode. A new tab opens to manage the recording.
Play the Video
The page reloads automatically. Play the video from the beginning — BoltStream captures data as it streams.
Stop & Save
Click Stop Recording when done. BoltStream combines the captured tracks and saves the file to your device.
What is MSE Recording?
Many modern video sites like Twitch, Facebook Watch, and Dailymotion use Media Source Extensions (MSE) to stream video. Instead of loading a single file, they dynamically inject compressed video data into the browser's media pipeline using JavaScript. This makes traditional download methods ineffective. BoltStream's Record Mode intercepts this data at the browser level, capturing the raw video and audio streams as they flow through the MSE API. The captured data is written to your browser's local storage in real-time, then combined into a playable file when you stop recording. Everything runs locally — no data leaves your browser.
MSE Recording FAQ
Which sites does MSE recording work on?
MSE recording works on any site that uses Media Source Extensions for video playback, including Twitch, Facebook Watch, Dailymotion, and many others. Note: YouTube is not supported due to Chrome Web Store policies, and DRM-protected content (e.g. Netflix, Disney+) cannot be captured. If a site uses standard video files instead of MSE, use the regular download mode.
Does recording affect video playback?
Recording adds minimal overhead. You can watch the video normally while it records. Use the speed controls to play faster if you just want to capture the data quickly.
What format is the output file?
The output format depends on the source. Most sites produce WebM or MP4 files. If the video has separate audio and video tracks, BoltStream combines them automatically.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All recording and processing happens locally in your browser. No video data, URLs, or browsing history is sent to any external server.
